The Computing Technology Industry Association (CompTIA) offers industry-leading resources and networking opportunities for IT professionals and channel organizations, including certifications, business credentials and education. 

With approximately 2,000 member companies, 3,000 academic and training partners, 75,000 registered users and more than 2 million IT certifications issued, CompTIA has an immense global footprint. Managing such a large and geographically distributed network requires streamlined communication and training programs that are widely accessible to members and partners around the world. 

CompTIA relies on Video Solutions to create and distribute educational content for association members. This includes everything from live training sessions at its Downers Grove, Ill. headquarters to quarterly staff meetings that allow the entire association to attend online. CompTIA wanted to move their annual ChannelCon event to a hybrid format, with remote participation options to increase overall attendance. 


The Video Solutions team recommended the association use Mediasite’s video management platform to record and distribute keynotes and select sessions from the event, which is geared toward IT vendors, distributors and solution providers.  

“With such a diverse offering to over 1,000 live attendees per event, the focus now was how to bring the exciting offerings of ChannelCon to an even larger audience,” explained Michael Sutton, AV Technology & Video Production Manager at CompTIA. “ChannelCon Online was designed to allow people to attend educational sessions for their business and allow certified individuals to attend technical sessions to receive continuing education units to renew their certification. Mediasite’s extensive reporting capabilities allow us to track and apply these credits for individuals who attend the complete session.” 


CompTIA had aimed to increase attendance by 10 percent, but the video distribution structure that Video Solutions helped to install exceeded expectations and overall attendance increased by 25 percent. Over the course of two days, ChannelCon had more than 5,000 live views, 700 unique visitors attending, and 350 attendees at its peak. And the following year, the results improved even more with 19,000 live views, 2,200 unique IP addresses, and just under 900 attendees at their peak.
